Leading global energy companies are among the clients of Jones Day's energy practice in Mexico, which advises on project development, financing and investment managment. The department also supports on regulatory issues throughout the sector. While the team has longstanding prowess in the sector, it has more recently developed its offering on conflict prevention strategies, as well as being equipped to handle high-stakes litigation should it arise. A trio of lawyers jointly lead the practice group: José Estandía, who has led advice on numerous M&A and financing deals in the Mexican energy market; infrastructure expert Alberto de la Parra, a veteran of numerous major energy developments in the country; and Alejandro Fleming, whose forte is electricity sector matters. Younger partner Arturo de la Parra is also strong on infrastructure and is particularly noted in the team for renewable energy projects. At associate level, senior Fernando Verdín advises on the regulatory scope of the Mexican power authority and the repealed electric power public service law; while semi-senior Andrés Barón supports on contractual law, M&A and corporate matters for international private sector companies with stakes in the Mexican energy sector.
